Visual Bulk welcomes

Expressions of Interest all year round.

Visual Bulk aims to make room for new and emergent forms of art making. We have a responsive programme that enables artists to self-direct public outcomes and the development of new work. We also offer a pre-exhibition residency opportunity for artists to develop a project in the gallery space, shifting the traditional structure of studio practice to gallery presentation.

We are self-funded and not-for-profit, and are interested in exhibiting work that is experimental and critical. We are open to hosting exhibitions, performances, cross-disciplinary events, screenings, lectures and other happenings that don't fit neatly into these categories.

Based on Argyle St, the space is easily accessible within Hobart, Tasmania. We encourage artists to apply from across Australia and internationally, and hope in our programming to pair interstate or overseas artists with local artists. We currently do not charge any fees for exhibiting at Visual Bulk and offer in-kind support wherever we can. However, a small refundable bond is required prior to occupying the space.

The entire gallery is approx. 90m2 - please see floor plan for details. You are welcome to apply for any or all of the exhibition spaces. Group exhibitions and curatorial projects are strongly encouraged.
